It's never too late to start...

It may be hard to believe, but at any age, you can start something. Art, science, technology, etc., in fact, what is more important than age is interest, motivation, work and follow-up. Let’s not go far. I give an example of myself.

Ever since I was a child, I was not artistic in painting. Eyes, eyes, two eyebrows… it was the end of my painting art. Even with colored pencils, I did not imagine more than that. For a while, I was watching the program “The joye of Painting” with the performance and artistry of Bob Ross on TV and I said, “How interesting!” How convenient! How beautiful! But I was just a spectator. A long time passed and Bob Ross also passed away. But I was still a fan at most.

In my early 50s, my interest in painting was burning, and I became determined. I went to the first painting supply store, bought some paints and brushes (especially Bob Ross’s favorite fan brush) and spatulas and other supplies, I also downloaded some of Bob Ross‘ programs. And at the same time as the movie was playing (of course with a little pause and play) I started painting.

step one:

The first panel was drawn in this way. It does not touch the heart. The trees are out of shape, the colors are out of proportion, the lines are weak and in general, it was not a work to be proud of. However, as the first work of oil painting for someone who has never held a brush, never mixed colors, did not know how to dilute paint at all, and did not know how to paint at all, you could be proud of it. The whole painting took about 2 hours to draw, longer than that to collect the mess I had created. But the pleasure it gave me was so strong that I decided to continue. Next week, pen in hand again, ready to create another work…

Second attempt

Considering that I was working at that time, I only had time to paint on Sundays. Next Sunday, I prepared the supplies more carefully. This time I had also bought a robe so that my clothes would not be stained. I chose an episode of Bob Ross‘ program and started…

The result of paint number 2.

This time the trees are more beautiful, color harmony, a little better and of course the painting is more beautiful. But do not forget the path of progress. For this panel, I used a new tool compared to the first panel. Because there should be a forward change in each step compared to the previous step.

A painting spatula was used to draw the mountains, which was not needed in the first work.

Seeing the differences created between the two paintings made my motivation to paint multiply. I had pictures of the plaques on my mobile phone and showed them to everyone I met. This time it was a painting that I was not ashamed to show to others.

Third attempt:

Change and moving forward is necessary for progress. So the third panel had to be changed. This time I moved from summer landscapes with cold colors to winter landscapes with warm colors. Maybe from the point of view of a professional painter, this is not considered a change at all. But it is considered a big change for an institution that adopts a pattern and moves based on it. Lines of snow by the lake, snow sitting on tree trunks, bare trees as opposed to green pine trees (really, the method of drawing these is drastically different), dry bushes growing out of snow, were all things that were challenging for me. But the challenge will make you grow on the path to progress.

The fourth leap

The fourth panel was full of creativity. The self-confidence created by the previous paintings stimulated my creativity.

The canvas was rounded.

I used acrylic paint instead of oil paint.

I used UV paint.

The panel was drawn day and night in parallel strips.

Due to the differences between acrylic and oil paints and my lack of knowledge about this at the time, the result was far from what I wanted, but it was still enjoyable for me.

It was an interesting, creative and progressive work in its own way. And this seemed to be enough to be on the path of progress.

Fifth movement

The fifth panel was different from the previous panels.

I felt that my hand is so familiar with my pen that I won’t ask for help from dear professor Bob Ross again this time. I chose a real image as a template and naturally removed or replaced the hard parts. The result was a painting with a view of the sunset and the sea.

The important thing in these five paintings is not progress or lack of progress in painting. The most important point is the principle of changeability. In these panels, each panel has a difference and a new point compared to the previous ones. Not being afraid of change is the basis of progress and success.

last word

For some reason, after the sixth painting, I lost my painting workshop and could not paint for a while. But in the short time that came later, I chose new styles and fashions for work.

I remind you again that I started painting after the age of 50 and it was interesting to me that most people didn’t believe that I didn’t go to painting classes. This disbelief showed that it is never too late to start…
